As a valued employee in the Department of Housing, Local Government, Planning and Public Works, you will play a vital role in delivering a range of services that make a real difference to the lives of Queenslanders. Your role will support the department to provide housing assistance, homelessness support services, local government support and advice, state and regional planning, public works building and design and industry regulatory reform. You will work in an organisation that is focussed on reframing the department’s relationship with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, communities, and organisations through the Path to Treaty, Closing the Gap and building our cultural capability. We are looking to find the person best suited for the role and will be considering you knowledge, skills, experience, potential for development and future contribution to the department as well as your personal qualities and how they contribute to building a diverse workforce that reflects the Queensland community.
You will be responsible for providing efficient, professional and confidential support to the Deputy Director-General.
What you will be doing
• Keep abreast of current issues which may impact on the service area and report finding to the Deputy Director-General.
• Quality check correspondence, submissions, briefing notes and reports and provide advice to business areas where changes/clarification is required and seek ways for continuous improvement.
• Review and manage work priorities and deadlines within the service area on a
daily basis.
• Manage and respond to emails on behalf of the Deputy Director-General within the service area.
• Screen incoming calls and effectively manage queries and redirect calls to relevant areas.
• Coordinate and manage administration support activities across the service area, including quality assurance processes for correspondence, meeting papers and briefs, travel and itinerary arrangements and corporate card reconciliations.
• Establish and maintain positive working relationships within Department, the service areas of the department, other State Government agencies and external stakeholders to enable consultation, liaison and negotiation of priorities.
• Provide direction and guidance to the Executive Assistant on executive support and general administrative tasks.
• Contribute at a high-level to a culture of customer services, excellence and continuous improvement.
• Participate in the delivery and coordination of the unit's business functions and undertake strategic projects as required.
• Support and help maintain a workplace safety culture by ensuring that all policies and practices concerning Workplace Health and Safety are applied and a part of day to day operations.

• Provide high level administrative support and services to a senior executive to support achieving the organisation's goals.
• Successfully coordinate multiple activities under pressure and with competing priorities.
• Successfully build and sustain positive relationships with team members, stakeholders and management.
• Maintain confidentiality proactively analysing administrative service and system issues, identifying practical and creative solutions and have successfully implemented them.
• Ability in using high level communication and interpersonal skills to achieve outcomes.
