About the Position
The City of Wanneroo is an outer-metropolitan growth Council with a diverse range of suburbs comprising coastal areas, rural land, conservation reserves, recreation and sporting parks, industrial precincts, established suburban areas and new housing estates. The City has experienced sustained urban growth over the last twenty years, and this is projected to continue into the future.

We are seeking an experienced professional to lead the Community Facilities Planning sub-unit and oversee the planning and development of future community facilities and public spaces that meet the needs of our growing community.
The role is responsible for:
- Developing and nurturing a positive and productive sub-unit culture where team members are engaged and accountable for their work, achieving key deliverables;
- Effectively managing the internal activities of the sub-unit to meet identified objectives;
- Undertaking feasibility studies, master planning and other strategic planning processes to support well researched, timely and expert advice;
- Ensuring best practice community and stakeholder engagement is integrated into facility planning processes;
- Interpreting, drafting and reviewing policies, procedures and processes to inform decision making, ensuring alignment with the City's Corporate Business Plan and customer needs; and
- Ensuring effective capital budget planning and project management support innovation in community facility planning that meets community needs.
Given the unique nature of the City, there are a range of exciting projects that the successful candidate will be involved in, including:
- Finalising and implementing a Community Facilities Planning Framework;
- Reviewing and implementing Community Facility Plans for the City's Northern Coastal Growth Corridor and East Wanneroo areas;
- Planning for future regional and district sporting precincts in Alkimos, Yanchep and East Wanneroo;
- Revitalising and upgrading existing facilities in the City's southern suburbs; and
- Providing specialist facility planning input into development proposals, including structure plans and development contribution plans.
About You
You will hold extensive knowledge of contemporary community facility provision and have experience working with a range of interest groups. You will be a collaborative leader with strong people management capabilities and stakeholder management skills. You will be a great communicator with the ability to influence and negotiate with others to achieve great outcomes for our customers.
You will also have exceptional report writing capability and be at ease presenting to high level stakeholders.
You can demonstrate through your resume and covering letter that you meet the following capabilities:
- Tertiary qualification in relevant discipline such as Sport and Recreation Management, Business or a related discipline.
- Significant experience in a similar role within a large and complex organisation.
- Significant experience in stakeholder management and working with special interest groups.
- Knowledge of business planning, resource planning and budget management.
- Extensive knowledge of the sport and recreation industry;
- Advanced people management skills to direct, manage, evaluate and motivate staff.
- Advanced communication (written, verbal and public speaking) and problem-solving skills.
- Advanced research and analysis skills.
- Advanced negotiation and influencing skills.
- Advanced skills in the efficient utilisation of information systems and technology.
- Knowledge of the practical application of occupational health and safety measures in the workplace, including risk assessment and control implementation.
