Org. Setting and Reporting
- This position is located in the Core Operations Unit (COU), Information Technology Service (ITS), Division for Management (DM), United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV) and United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), in Vienna, Austria. The incumbent will work under the direct supervision of the Infrastructure & Communications team leader, Chief COU, and under the overall guidance of the Chief of ITS. The incumbent will take a leading role in providing IP telephony and network infrastructure services to UNOV, UNODC and other Vienna-based organizations obtaining services from UNOV
- Responsibilities
- Serves as team member in the planning, design, development, implementation, and support of IP telephony-based solutions. - Provides support for Cisco Unified Communications Manager, Cisco IP phones, and Cisco voice gateways. - Manages campus network infrastructure (wired and wireless) and maintaining high level of performance and reliability. - Coordinates with other organisational units on issues that affect IP telephony and network infrastructure administration and configuration. - Plans, schedules, and implements IP telephony and network maintenance activities which include firmware upgrades, hardware replacement and network infrastructure changes. - Communicates effectively with internal and external audiences with varying levels of technical expertise. - Designs, implements, and audits complex configuration changes across a multi-vendor environment. - Coordinates with vendors to provide appropriate hardware to meet business requirements. - Keeps abreast of developments in technology both in the UN and in the industry in general. - Escalates problems/tasks to the appropriate parties in accordance with established procedure. - Monitors inventory levels of required equipment and initiates procurement when low thresholds are reached. Recommends acquisition of hardware, software, devices, tools, etc. to facilitate work. - Performs other duties as assigned.

- Completed secondary education (high school diploma or equivalent diploma). Certification and training in Project Management is considered added advantage.

- English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in English, i.e. oral and written proficiency is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
