This position is located in the Implementation Support Section (ISS), Corruption and Economic Crime Branch (CEB), Division for Treaty Affairs (DTA) of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), in Vienna. The incumbent will work under the direct supervision of the Chief of the Section or other Senior Officers of the Section.

**Responsibilities**:
Within assigned authority the incumbent will perform the following specific duties:

- Conduct legal research into States’ efforts for implementing the UN Convention against Corruption; select relevant material; analyze information and present findings for internal review;
- Conduct additional legal research on areas relevant to the implementation of the Convention using multiple research sources, select relevant material, analyze information and present findings for internal review;
- Provide advisory services and technical expertise to specialized anti-corruption bodies and units on preventing, detecting, investigating and prosecuting cases of corruption and related offences;
- Assist in the development and delivery of targeted anti-corruption training courses based on needs analysis, especially for key personnel in the area of prevention, criminalization, enforcement and asset recovery;
- Assist in the preparation of drafts of country review reports;
- Assist in the organization and servicing of meetings and the preparation of technical and substantive documentation and official records of the Conference of the States Parties, and in particular its Working Group on Prevention, support follow-up work and preparation of documents to the same;
- Provide substantive input to the development of technical publications to facilitate the ratification and implementation of the Convention;
- Provide substantive inputs on matters related to the ratification and implementation of the Convention to the overall work of the Division and UNODC;
- Liaise on substantive issues with counterparts in UNODC, both in Vienna and in the field, officials of other UN organizations and specialized agencies and representatives of Governments, IGOs and NGOs to obtain and exchange relevant information;
- Perform other work related duties as assigned.

Education
An advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in criminology, social science, international relations, political science, law, public administration or related field is required.

A first-level university degree in similar field in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Work Experience
A minimum of two years of relevant work experience in the area of crime prevention and criminal justice issues, preferably with a focus on corruption and economic crime or closely related issues, as well as in international cooperation in criminal matters OR the successful completion of the United Nations Young Professionals Programme Examination (YPP), the United Nations National Competitive Recruitment Examination (NCRE) or the General Service to Professional Examination (G to P) is required.

Familiarity/experience with technical assistance delivery, particularly legislative assistance and multilateral cooperation in crime prevention matters, including filed based delivery to national counterparts, is desirable.

Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another United Nations official language is an advantage.
