The internship is located in the Terrorism Prevention Branch (TPB), Division for Treaty Affairs (DTA), United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), Vienna (Austria).

The internship is UNPAID and full time.

Interns work five days per week (40 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned.

In the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, applicants may be requested to undertake the internship remotely in view of constraints regarding visa issuance, international travel and access to UN premises. Applicants must be willing and prepared to undertake the internship remotely for a part or the entirety of the internship.

**Responsibilities**:
The intern shall undertake the following duties which may include, but are not limited to:

- Conduct research on criminal justice aspects of terrorism prevention and on specific

counter-terrorism-related thematic areas;
- Contribute to the elaboration of communication materials (such as web stories and tweets), background documents, presentations, briefing notes, summaries, talking points and speeches;
- Contribute to the creation of e-learning modules on the UNODC Counter-Terrorism Learning Platform (CTLP);
- Assist in the planning, preparation and organization of virtual and/or in-person national and regional technical assistance workshops, meetings, events and conferences;
- Attend and take notes at meetings, as required; and
- Perform other tasks as necessary.

Technological Awareness:
Education

To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met:

- Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent); or (c) have recently graduated with a university degree (as defined above)

(OFFICIAL WRITTEN PROOF FROM THE UNIVERSITY SUPPORTING ONE OF THE ABOVE POSSIBILITIES MUST BE ATTACHED TO THE INSPIRA APPLICATION);
- Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and
- Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

IT skills
- Experience or knowledge in using social media (Twitter) or graphics software/ design tools (Canva, Photoshop) is desirable.

Work Experience

Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations. Fluency in English, i.e. oral and written proficiency, is required.

Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an asset. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this post, knowledge of Arabic and/or French is an additional asset.
