Research Scientist in Trapped-ion Quantum Systems

We are seeking a Quantum Engineer to develop ion-trap chips (ITCs) at Photonics Austria. As part of our team, you will contribute to realizing the building blocks of next-generation quantum technology.

Your Responsibilities:
  • You will lead the development of ITCs.
  • You will coordinate ITC fabrication across different research units and cleanroom facilities.
  • You will execute small-scale fabrication and prototypes for ITC devices in cleanroom facilities using 200 mm wafer-level technology.
  • You will coordinate testing of developed ITC devices.
  • You will co-develop the design, fabrication, and technological advancement of ion trap chips.
  • You will perform quality control and documentation for statistical process control.
  • You will communicate and report research findings to both scientific and non-scientific audiences.
  • You will communicate and align with industry and academic partners.
  • You will manage projects.
  • You will acquire R&D projects.
About You:
  • PhD in physics, quantum technology, electronics engineering, or similar.
  • 3+ years of experience in semiconductor manufacturing and trapped-ion quantum technology.
  • Experience in an industrial environment is an asset.
  • Proficiency in English. German or willingness to learn is an asset.
  • Motivated team player with good communication skills.
  • Willingness to relocate to Austria/Villach.
  • Willingness to travel.
