Communications and Customer Experience is a Division within the Office of the Secretary in the Department and is responsible for informing, consulting and engaging our customers, industry partners, employees and the broader community about Victoria's transport and planning programs, projects and services.
We enrich Victorians' experience of an integrated transport and planning network by providing experiences that support simple, safe, connected journeys and healthy places.
About the RoleFull time - Fixed term to December 2025 (with the possibility of the role being extended) The Communications Lead is accountable for developing and delivering communication and engagement for the major network service change that will occur when the Metro Tunnel opens.
This is a high-volume, fast-paced delivery communications role.
Applicants need to be organised, detail-focused, adaptive to changing information, responsive to internal and external stakeholders, and able to interpret technical information into plain English.
This role will suit someone who is process-driven and can adhere to a delivery schedule, write communications plans, collateral, deliver consultation, and has an interest in public transport.
Position Outcomes Produce comprehensive communication plans and collateral for use across traditional and digital channels, define messaging and channels, transfer technical terminology to easily understood language, reflect potential issues and propose mitigations.Partner with project teams to gain a deep understanding of the project and the communications needed to meet the delivery remit.Deliver communication and engagement plans at a high standard, with identification of risk mitigation strategies within outlined timeframes.Work with VIDA, MTPO and the broader transport portfolio (including alliance partners, transport operators and other transport agencies) to ensure a consistent and clear message is delivered to the public.Build strong and trusting relationships with internal stakeholders within Network Services Change division, Modal Planning teams and DTP marketing and media teams.Innovative solutions that improve communication, engagement and performance have been developed and implemented.KEY SELECTION CRITERIA The successful candidate will write well and have experience in developing and executing external-facing communications plans.
We are looking for someone who is adept at communicating with impact and can turn technical information into plain but engaging copy for key messages and Q&As.
They will also demonstrate expertise in project delivery, defining tasks, coordinating work activities, identifying risks, and monitoring progress to ensure that agreed outcomes are met, taking corrective actions when necessary.
We are seeking someone who has strong stakeholder management capabilities, able to navigate and address complex, often competing internal and external stakeholder needs, and facilitate solutions to resolve issues.
The candidate will be accustomed to working in a dynamic and changing project environment and is able to work to tight timeframes within a small team to ensure the job gets done.
Additionally, the candidate should have a solid understanding of the political and organisational context, recognising the pressures that the organisation faces and the factors that shape its climate and culture.
