Information Technology Assistant

This position is located in Service Design and Provisioning Team (SDP), Information Technology Service (ITS), Division for Management (DM), United Nations Office at Vienna /United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNOV/UNODC), in Vienna, Austria. The incumbent will work under the direct supervision of the Information Technology Assistant leading the Service Design and Provisioning Team (SDP) and the overall supervision to the Service Delivery Officer in the Office of the Chief, ITS.
**Responsibilities**:
Within assigned authority, the Information Technology Assistant
will work on tasks which entail the following specific duties:
- Perform a wide range of office support and administrative functions.
- Assist in providing software and office equipment support.
- Assist in the local and remote deployment of Windows OS updates and patches for the operating system to end user desktop PCs.
- Perform tasks related to scheduled service requests, including equipment replacement, equipment installation/de-installation, software installation, LAN connection, returns to stock, site surveys, etc.
- Upgrade remaining users’ storage disks to the latest solid-state technology.
- Deploy the installed PCs and productivity devices to end user desks.
- Backup and restore user specific data.
- Answer end user questions about new features of the newly deployed office tools.
- Report any issues related to the deployment tasks to the support teams.
- Assist with inventory-related and conference tasks.
- May be required to lift, move, mount, or store equipment weighing up to 50 lbs, or up to 80 pieces of equipment on a daily basis.
- Assist with the collection and analysis of data as well as preparation of data presentations and reports for information sharing, responding to queries, knowledge management, planning and decision making.
- May be required to work on shift assignments on weekdays to maintain the service coverage from 08:00 to 18:00. Occasionally, on average once a month, the incumbent may be required to work ad-hoc assignments during evenings or early mornings of working days as well as holidays and weekends.

Education
High school diploma or equivalent is required. A recognized first-level university degree (Bachelor degree or equivalent) may be accepted in lieu of two years of required work experience.
Job - Specific Qualification
Having passed the Administrative Support Assessment Test [in English] at the United Nations headquarters, Economic Commission for Africa, Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia, United Nations Office at Geneva, United Nations Office at Vienna, International criminal tribunal for Rwanda or International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia may be accepted in lieu of the GGST.
Work Experience
A minimum of three years (or one year in combination with a first-level university degree (Bachelor degree or equivalent)) of work experience in administrative and office support functions preferably in a large organization is required.
Experience in general office automation software, local area networks, Office 365 and Lotus Notes functionality is required.
Work experience in delivering PC/laptop support Tier 2 services is required.
Work experience within the United Nations system or similar international organizations is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another United Nations official language is an advantage.
