Administrative Law Attorney / Government / Public Law Attorney in Canberra, Australian Capital Territory Responsibilities Manage the legal team, ensuring sustainable workloads and strategic use of legal resources. Supervise and mentor Lawyers, Senior Lawyers, or Principal Lawyers, supporting their development and managing team performance. Provide strategic legal advice on significant matters, particularly on major workstreams or complex investigations and litigation with sector‑wide implications or reputational risk for the organization. Oversee the team’s legal outputs to ensure consistent advice that balances risk appropriately, identifying sensitivities and broader contexts. Build and maintain positive engagement with stakeholders, including line areas, corporate teams, and external stakeholders. Enhance the capability of the Legal Group by contributing to broader legal knowledge and knowledge‑management processes within the Legal Group and the organization. Promote cross‑branch collaboration, including improving ways of working and resource management across the Legal Group. Education and Experience Significant legal experience at a senior practitioner level (approximately 10+ years or equivalent) in areas relevant to the organization’s functions and responsibilities, such as litigation, investigations and enforcement, consumer law, competition law, mergers and exemptions, infrastructure regulation, administrative law, or corporate law. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence, persuade, and negotiate. Strong stakeholder management skills and the ability to work closely with line area or corporate teams to achieve outcomes for the organization. Ability to quickly distill and explain key legal issues in challenging and complex scenarios. Ability to exercise excellent judgment under pressure, reconcile conflicting views, and manage competing priorities. Demonstrated success in leading a team. Admission as a practitioner of the High Court or the Supreme Court of an Australian State or Territory is essential, with a current Australian practicing certificate required. Salary Salary range: $162,619 - $172,365 (plus % superannuation). The successful candidate will be appointed as an EL2 and may attract an additional allowance via an Individual Flexibility Arrangement (IFA) depending on skills and experience. All IFAs are reviewed annually in accordance with the organization’s IFA policy and are not ongoing. Additional Information The roles are available on a full‑time, part‑time, or job‑share basis and can be performed from any capital city in a state or territory or Townsville.
