Medical Secretary - Neurosurgery The closing date is 03 December 2025. An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Neuro-Oncology Department for a motivated individual to join our very busy and dedicated admin team. You will provide secretarial and administrative support to our clinical team and offer a professional service to our patients. You will be expected to work efficiently, with a high degree of accuracy and confidentiality. You will have the ability to use your initiative and manage, prioritise and complete your workload while working under pressure. You will work both independently and as part of a multi‑disciplinary team (MDT), liaising with professionals within CUH and across the region. The role is integral to ensuring the safe and effective delivery of patient services, supporting communication, data management, and coordination across the MDT. Home working would be available once the training period has been completed. Main duties of the job To provide a comprehensive Medical Secretary and PA service to Consultants within the speciality, including coordinating meetings, optimising clinic time, ensuring compliance with CCG requirements, producing clinic letters, other documents and dealing with patient and GP queries and concerns in a sympathetic and constructive manner. Person Specification Qualifications Educated to A Level or Level 3 Business Admin / IT qualification or equivalent experience, including: English GCSE pass at Grade 4 or above Maths GCSE pass at Grade 4 or above Touch typing certificate or equivalent experience Knowledge of letter and document layout principles Good grammar, spelling and punctuation usage Medical Terminology Certificate or equivalent Experience Experience of administrative work Prioritising, planning and organising own tasks Working within guidelines and developing administrative processes Customer service and dealing with enquiries in difficult situations Data entry and producing reports Experience of IT packages – Microsoft Office Secretarial and/or administrative including diary management, co‑ordinating and arranging meetings, minute taking and developing templates Allocate and monitor work of others Familiarity with Epic computer system Experience of working in the NHS Skills Ability to work as part of a team Excellent communication skills including telephone, e‑mail and face‑to‑face Ability to organise and manage own timekeeping to schedule and deadlines Ability to adapt to change Ability to work under pressure Ability to store and safeguard confidential documents, both electronic and hard copy Ability to show attention to detail and accuracy Willing to take on and learn new skills Accurate and speedy typing and keyboard skills Good organisation skills Ability to use own initiative and work autonomously Knowledge Understanding confidentiality and data protection Understanding of customer services Office procedures Knowledge of Trust information systems Additional Requirements The ability to understand and behave at all times, towards patients, visitors and colleagues according to the Trust values of Safe, Kind, Excellent.
