Child and Family Counsellor, Helping Children Heal (HCH) Are you a trauma‑informed counsellor passionate about helping children and families heal from DFV? Position Summary Full‑time, fixed‑term role based in Burwood until late June 2026, supporting women and children impacted by domestic and family violence through the HCH project. About WAGEC Women’s and Girls’ Emergency Centre (WAGEC) is a feminist grassroots organisation that supports women and families in crisis. We work on the lands of the Gadigal, Wangal and Dharug people of the Eora Nation, providing material aid, case management, biopsychosocial support, accommodation and crisis responses to 200 women and children nightly. Role and Responsibilities Provide tailored counselling and support to families to improve social, emotional and educational outcomes for children. Plan and implement various therapeutic groups for children and adults. Assess family situations and respond to child safety concerns. Complete administrative tasks accurately, timely and thoroughly. Proactively contribute to WAGEC’s overall culture and impact. Core Responsibilities and Collaboration Work closely with the Child and Family Psychologist and the multidisciplinary HCH team, employing creative strategies and tailored modalities in individual, family and group settings. Requirements Qualifications in Occupational Therapy, Psychology, Learning Support or Creative Therapies. At least 3 years of experience working with children and/or young people. Demonstrated strengths‑based approach with families who have experienced complex trauma, including in domestic/family violence and child protection contexts. Experience in a health or not‑for‑profit family services setting. Ability to work in a culturally safe way with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and families with diverse backgrounds and abilities. Due to the nature of the work, this role is not suitable for new graduates without 3 years of relevant experience.
