Content & Engagement Specialist
Vor 2 Tagen
The Westmead Institute for Medical Research (WIMR) – Westmead NSW The Content & Engagement Specialist (Philanthropy Focus) is a key role within WIMR’s Engagement & Development portfolio, responsible for creating compelling, human‑centred content that deepens connection with donors, stakeholders, people with lived experience, and the wider community. The role works closely with researchers, clinicians, patients, and our community to develop stories that demonstrate the real‑world impact of WIMR’s medical research, supporting philanthropic growth, brand visibility, and institutional engagement. A central responsibility is the design and delivery of a structured clinician and patient engagement program to capture authentic stories that highlight WIMR’s scientific translation and influence on health outcomes. The Specialist produces high‑quality written, visual, and digital content for fundraising campaigns, donor communications, media, digital channels, internal communications, and signature institutional projects including the annual impact report and WIMR’s website. This requires outstanding organisational and prioritisation skills, superb written communication and editorial judgement, and the ability to translate complex scientific ideas into clear, accessible, emotionally resonant narratives. The role also coordinates internal communications to ensure alignment with WIMR’s brand and organisational priorities, working closely with the Director of Engagement & Development. The Specialist will use AI tools creatively and responsibly to enhance content production and workflow efficiency and will engage external agencies where specialised capability or scale is needed. In partnership with the Engagement & Development team, the role also contributes to the planning and delivery of key stakeholder and donor engagement events, ensuring high quality and cohesive experiences. This is an excellent opportunity for a hands‑on communications specialist motivated by mission and impact, who thrives in a small, collaborative team where individual contribution makes a meaningful difference. Success requires strong digital literacy, exceptional writing, creativity, and the ability to build trusted relationships across WIMR’s research and clinical community, as well as with patients, donors, and external stakeholders. Key responsibilities Storytelling, Content & Digital Engagement Develop and implement a clinician and patient engagement program to capture authentic, high‑impact stories that demonstrate WIMR’s research translation and outcomes. Create compelling written, visual, and digital content for philanthropic campaigns, donor stewardship, digital channels, events, media materials, newsletters, internal engagement and digital channels. Produce high‑quality materials for major institutional projects, including the annual report, impact reporting, and signature engagement campaigns. Lead ongoing content development and updates for WIMR’s website, ensuring accuracy, relevance, and alignment with brand and strategic priorities. Manage and analyse digital and social channels with a forward content calendar aligned to engagement, brand, and fundraising goals. Support media engagement by drafting media releases, preparing media‑ready materials, coordinating content for media opportunities, and assisting with media events. Capture basic photography and shortform video content at events and across WIMR’s research community to support storytelling and digital activity. Maintain brand alignment across all content, ensuring consistency of tone, messaging, and visual identity. Use AI tools responsibly and creatively to support content generation, editing, and workflow efficiency. Manage website CMS tools, email marketing platforms, and digital publishing systems. Liaise with marketing, brand, PR and digital advertising agencies to deliver aligned and effective campaigns. Engagement & Internal Communications Build strong working relationships with researchers, clinicians, patients, and consumer advocates to identify meaningful stories and engagement opportunities. Collaborate with the Director to align content with WIMR’s brand strategy, donor value proposition, and engagement priorities. Draft internal communications including staff announcements, intranet content, and organisational updates, ensuring accuracy and consistency. Contribute to donor and stakeholder engagement events through content preparation, collateral development, event support, and capturing material for post‑event storytelling. Coordinate external suppliers such as designers, photographers, videographers, and digital agencies where specialist expertise is required. Contribute to a coordinated communications and engagement calendar that enhances visibility and deepens stakeholder connection. To be successful you will need to have the following: Knowledge and skills Experience in content creation, storytelling, digital communication, media, or engagement roles. Proven ability to translate complex information – scientific, technical, or otherwise – into compelling, human‑centred narratives. Preferred experience in fundraising and donor engagement, with related experience in brand campaigns or other external communications also considered relevant. Skilled in managing social media channels, website CMS platforms, and digital publishing tools. Familiarity with ethical storytelling, privacy requirements, preferably through engagement with patient or community groups. Confidence using design and editing tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite basics), and comfortable capturing basic photography or video for content. Personal Qualities Outstanding organisational and prioritisation skills, with the ability to manage multiple deadlines in a dynamic environment. Superb written communication and editing skills, with exceptional attention to detail and narrative clarity. Resourceful and self‑sufficient, able to maximise impact in a small, mission‑driven team by using creativity, smart tools, and selective engagement of external suppliers. Creative, proactive, and solutions‑oriented, with strong editorial judgement. Empathetic and relationship‑focused, able to engage credibly with researchers, clinicians, patients, donors, and colleagues. Collaborative, adaptable, and highly motivated by WIMR’s mission and impact. High integrity, discretion, and commitment to ethical storytelling and representation.
