About the team

Board Advance is the brand behind AICD’s B2B offering, bringing together over forty years’ experience in director development. Our aim is to assist our clients by drawing on our expertise in the skills and knowledge required to boost performance at a board level. We help to unlock better board performance by targeting two critical areas: performance assessment and governance development.

As a national team, the Board Advance team are responsible for identifying business development opportunities with existing and new clients across the business, government, and Not for Profit communities within their region. The team regularly interacts with some of the country’s largest organisations and top leaders to connect them with educational courses to help them address governance matters across their organisation.

About the role

As the Business Development Manager, you will leverage your strategic and commercial aptitude to drive client acquisition, revenue growth and client engagement within the Board Advance Team. Drawing upon your extensive experience working with public sector clients, you will employ your commercial acumen and negotiation prowess to forge impactful relationships with government agencies, national peak bodies, and C-suite executives. An essential element of this role is robust engagement and negotiation skills to influence and expand AICD’s reach to meet client and project deliverables effectively. You'll be required to apply your expert knowledge of governance, and governance principals to identify client needs and develop exceptional solutions for boards and organisations.

Your remit will be broad and will include:

  • Collaborate with the National Strategic Business Development Manager and ACT State Manager to provide insight into the development of the Board Advance strategic plan, to drive revenue growth.
  • Develop growth strategies and new business opportunities through research, knowledge of industry trends and sector insights.
  • Identify, develop and implement account plans for new clients using client and market intelligence.
  • Effectively collaborate with key internal stakeholders to assess and identify opportunities for growth and improvement and develop solutions to meet new client needs.
  • Identify and develop opportunities to improve the client experience that builds brand loyalty.
  • Utilise the CRM platform to prepare business development and activity forecasts, analysing statistics and developing reports that measure the success of the Board Advance strategy
  • Manage and coordinate initiatives and promotions working in partnership with the marketing team to develop marketing campaigns.
  • Manage and work collaboratively with a team of 2 Board Advance Partners to ensure new client opportunities are actioned and transacted
  • Work in collaboration with the Head of Board Advance, Board Advance Partners, State Managers and other stakeholders to support new business development opportunities.
  • Collaborate with the Commercial Support Team and other stakeholders to ensure due diligence to achieve commercial and organisational compliance whilst meeting client needs.
Desired Skills and Experience

About you

You will have strong technical aptitude and previous relevant experience, and you will champion the AICD values of: Accountability, Respect, Excellence and Collaboration. In addition, you will also have the following:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Sales/Marketing/Business or demonstrated relevant experience.
  • Background in government or public sector OR experience working with government or public sector clients is essential
  • Extensive experience in business development, sales and account management
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate, present and influence effectively with internal and external stakeholders including C-Suite executives and directors at a very high level.
  • Sound negotiating and influencing ability
  • Prior people management experience is advantageous
  • Good understanding of governance and governance principals is desirable
  • Knowledge of AICD products, services, and value proposition
  • Advanced computing skills in MS Office Suite, CRMs and other software and technologies.
  • Excellent presentation, written and verbal skills
