Austar Finance holds an AFSL license and manages several property funds, with headquarters in Sydney and offices in Melbourne and Brisbane.

Austar provides both debt and equity finance solutions for property developers with geographical reach across the eastern seaboard of Australia. Typical transaction scope includes residential, together with growing exposure to commercial, retail, and industrial sectors. The typical transaction size range lies from $1-$40 million AUD plus. The team has achieved approximately $1.5 billion in total investment over the last 5 years.

About the role:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to join our executive team. The chosen candidate will play a critical role in overseeing the financial health of the company, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, and driving strategic financial planning to support our continued growth.

Responsibilities:

Financial Strategy and Planning:

• Develop and implement financial strategies aligned with the overall business objectives.

• Collaborate with the executive team to establish long-term financial goals and KPIs.

• Lead the annual budgeting process and provide ongoing forecasting.

• Monitor budget performance and provide recommendations for adjustments as needed.

Financial Reporting and Analysis:

• Prepare timely and accurate financial and management reports for internal and external stakeholders.

• Contribute to the ongoing development and refinement of internal reporting systems. 

  • Liaise with external auditors and regulatory bodies as necessary.

Compliance and Regulatory Affairs:

• Ensure compliance with all relevant financial regulations and standards, with emphasis on the ongoing requirements of Austar’s AFSL.

• Ensure the internal compliance functions are professionally managed and liaise with the Compliance Committee.

Investment and Debt Management:

• Contribute to the management of investment portfolios, optimizing returns for investors.

• Manage and optimize the company's debt portfolio.

• Collaborate with senior management to structure financing arrangements, and to liaise with funding parties.

Cash Flow Management:

• Monitor and manage the company's cash flow to support operational needs.

• Implement strategies to optimize working capital.

Company Secretarial Functions:

• Oversee company secretarial functions, ensuring compliance with corporate governance standards.

• Maintain statutory registers and ensure proper documentation of board and shareholder meetings.

Internal Audit:

• Develop and implement internal audit plans to assess and enhance the effectiveness of internal controls.

• Conduct periodic internal audits to identify areas for improvement and ensure compliance with policies.

Policy Document Maintenance:

• Refine and maintain all company policy documents, particularly focussing on those related to finance, compliance, and internal controls.

• Ensure policies are up-to-date with regulatory changes and industry best practices.

IT Systems:

• Oversee key systems to ensure they meet management and regulatory requirements, maintain relationships with key suppliers, and ensure systems (particularly data privacy, security and disaster recovery) are up to date and fit for purpose.

• Lead and mentor the finance team, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture.

• Provide guidance on financial matters to other departments as needed.

Qualifications:

• Proven experience as a CFO or in a similar executive financial role.

• Strong understanding of the funds management and non-bank finance industries in Australia.

• Excellent knowledge of Australian financial regulations and compliance requirements.

• Strategic thinker with the ability to contribute to overall business strategy.

• Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills.

• Effective leadership and communication abilities.
