About us:

For over 40 years, Yfoundations has served as the NSW peak body advocating for children and young people at risk of and experiencing homelessness, and the services that provide direct support to them.

We aim to create a future without child and youth homelessness by providing a voice for children and young people experiencing and at risk of homelessness. We work collaboratively with service providers, NGOs, government departments and community members to provide policy advice, sector development and other projects and services for children and young people.

Role overview:

As Policy and Communications Officer, you will play a key role in developing, supporting and communicating the policy and public advocacy work of our organisation. You will provide internal advice on major policy-related issues, emerging opportunities and challenges impacting children and young people experiencing homelessness and the services that support them.

Working closely with the Head of Policy and Advocacy and the CEO, you will be responsible for providing advice, analysis and critical assessment of policy developments, research and data related to the growing issue of child and youth homelessness. You will play a key role in the timely development of policy and advocacy related communications to the membership and external stakeholders.

The Policy and Communications Officer will assist the Head of Policy and Advocacy and the CEO in the development and communication of public advocacy. You will represent Yfoundations in relevant meetings with the membership and other stakeholders as delegated and develop and maintain effective working relationships with those stakeholders.

You will also support sector capacity building projects and partnerships including through our sector engagement strategy.

Selection criteria:
  • Knowledge/understanding of the key challenges faced by children and young people at risk of and experiencing homelessness
  • Knowledge/experience of policy development processes
  • Research and analytical skills with ability to synthesise information from a wide range of sources within pressured timeframes
  • Well developed interpersonal and written communication skills and ability to convey complex messages to different audiences in an accessible and engaging manner
  • Ability and/or experience in writing and producing content across a range of communication channels including print and online platforms and applications
  • Ability to work as part of a team and capacity to build effective working relationships with a wide range of individuals and organisations
