The internship is located in the Office of the Director-General/Office of the Executive Director, United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV)/United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), Vienna (Austria). The duration of the internship is 3 to 6 months starting mid July 2023.

The internship is UNPAID and full-time.

Interns work five days per week (40 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned.

**Responsibilities**:
The intern shall undertake the following duties which may include, but are not limited to:

- Assist with the review of documentation intended for the signature of the Director-General/Executive Director (DG/ED);
- Provide assistance in the preparations of the activities around the 40th anniversary of the Vienna International Centre, in direct coordination with the Protocol team.
- Draft correspondence for the signature of the DG/ED on a variety of issues;
- Support the preparation of mission folders and briefing materials for the DG/ED;
- Conduct research on various thematic and geographical areas in preparation for the activities of the DG/ED;
- Assist during special events and meetings as well as during visits of high-level counterparts to UNOV/UNODC;

Education

To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met:

- Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent). (OFFICIAL WRITTEN PROOF FROM THE UNIVERSITY SUPPORTING ONE OF THE ABOVE POSSIBILITIES MUST BE ATTACHED TO THE INSPIRA APPLICATION);
- Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and
- Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

Work Experience

Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of German in particular is an advantage. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an asset.

Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions.
