The Opportunity Melton City Council has a vacancy for a Community Programs Officer within our Community Participation and Partnership Team. Reporting to the Team Leader Community Programs and Connection, you will work with a team to activate Council-managed Neighbourhood Houses and Men’s Sheds through facilitated, locally accessible, community driven experiences, programs and projects. This position will initially be based at the Eynesbury Discovery Centre, which is a Council Neighbourhood House.Community Programs Officers are expected to work across all Neighbourhood Houses and Men’s Sheds in the municipality. Key Responsibilities Support the team to manage activation of community centres and have a coordinated presence at Council Neighbourhood Houses to build community capacity to plan, implement, and evaluate a suite of programs and activities that respond to the identified needs of the local community. Activate Council-managed Neighbourhood Houses through the facilitation of community initiated and driven opportunities for residents to develop responses and solutions to locally important needs and issues. Provide direction and support to contract facilitators, community volunteers, and other stakeholders recreating and working within Council’s Neighbourhood Houses. Under the direction of the Team Leader, work to ensure the safety and maintenance of Council facilities in collaboration with relevant internal teams. Ensure the day-to-day administration and operations of Council Neighbourhood Houses are carried out efficiently, effectively and with high quality customer service. Actively participate in building partnerships, networks and stakeholder relationships to improve community outcomes and comply with reporting and program needs. Exhibit a strong dedication to Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) accountability by adhering to pertinent OHS regulations, policies and procedures, actively fostering a secure work environment, and proactively mitigating potential workplace risks. About you To be successful in this role you will have the following: Degree or diploma in community development with little or no relevant work experience, or lesser formal qualifications with relevant work skills and experience. Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) including the ability to adapt communications to identified need and/or purpose, build relationships and gain cooperation with stakeholders from a broad range of backgrounds. Experience in the promotion of community centres, programs, activities and events Must hold or be able to obtain an Employee Working with Children Check.
