Contact: Lauren Askew – Last updated: 26/11/2025 – 04:00 PM Position Information About the Role Full Time: 1.0 FTE (Full time equivalent) Location: Oxley Park Public School Commencing: 27 January 2026 School psychologists are an essential part of the Department’s school counselling service and work in primary and high schools. They provide counselling and psychological assessment of students, complementing teachers to strengthen student learning and wellbeing outcomes and help families manage their children’s learning and mental health needs. This is a truly collegiate role offering unique challenges and opportunities – in professional development and the ability to make an impact on children and young people. The successful candidate will be based at Oxley Park Public School and will work across both primary and high school aged students, engaging a diverse student community and supporting their wellbeing at a critical stage of life. Psychologists receive individual supervision from the Senior Psychologist Education and participate in group and peer supervision as part of the broader school counselling team. Collaboration with school communities, colleagues, and outside agencies is integral, allowing use and expansion of full skill sets within a multidisciplinary team. Opportunities for continuing professional development are provided, and the NSW Department of Education supports completing or maintaining registration with the Psychology Board of Australia. Key Accountabilities Provides counselling and psychological services to students individually and in groups, including short‑term therapeutic interventions within training, experience and supervision limits. Engages with and implements the procedures of the Professional Practice Framework for the NSW School Counselling Service. Works with principal, school executive, staff, and student support services to improve learning and wellbeing outcomes and implement departmental priorities. Contributes to the social, emotional, and academic development of students and supports those with complex behavioural needs. Administers cognitive, social, emotional and behavioural assessments, reports results, and collaborates to improve learning, wellbeing and mental health outcomes. Works collaboratively with learning and support teams, parents and carers, and other agencies to develop appropriate school‑based support for students. Responds as part of a team to assist schools experiencing serious incidents. Refers students or their families and carers to other agencies supporting student health and wellbeing outcomes. Essential Requirements Knowledge of and commitment to implementing the Department’s Aboriginal Education Policy and upholding the Department's Partnership Agreement with the NSW AECG, ensuring quality outcomes for Aboriginal people. General or Provisional Psychology Registration with active internship with the Psychology Board of Australia. Valid and current Working with Children Check clearance. Current and valid driver’s licence and ability and willingness to travel between work sites. Australian citizenship or permanent residency.
