Programme Officer

This position is located in the Office of the Chief, Terrorism Prevention Branch (TPB), Division for Treaty Affairs (DTA), United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC). The incumbent will work under the guidance and direct supervision of the Policy Coordination Officer of TPB, and the overall supervision of the Chief of TPB.
**Responsibilities**:
Within assigned authority, the Programme Officer (Terrorism Prevention) will be responsible for the following specific duties/tasks:
- Contribute to the substantive expertise on a broad spectrum of policy, programmatic, strategic planning, evaluation, and impact assessment issues related to terrorism prevention.
- Contribute to the preparation of reports related to terrorism prevention policy, programming, and coordination to the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice, the General Assembly and other intergovernmental and technical bodies. Participate in and contribute to the substantive servicing of their meetings.
- Act as the focal point in the Branch, for organizing conferences, seminars, public relation events and other activities related to terrorism prevention policy coordination. Provide administrative and substantive support in organizing those events, including by preparing agendas, identifying, and liaising with participants, preparing background documents and presentations, handling logistics and protocol aspects.
- Support and initiate activities aimed at coordinating, facilitating and strengthening the relationship with Member States, other United Nations entities, and international and regional organizations, including through contributing to strengthening donor relations, and inter-agency collaboration in terrorism prevention matters.
- Contribute to the preparation of various written outputs, including background papers, briefing material/notes, analytical notes, sections of reports and studies, inputs to publications and, as required, official correspondence of the Branch. Prepare and deliver presentations, as needed, on assigned topics.
- Contribute to strengthening TPB’s partnerships with a wide variety of stakeholders at the national, regional and global levels, including, but not limited to Member States, UN entities, international organizations, civil society organizations, academic institutions, and the private sector, and support coordination and collaboration.

Education
An advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in business administration, management, international relations, international development, economics or a related field.
A first level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced university degree.
Work Experience
A minimum of five years of progressively responsible and directly relevant professional experience in multilateral terrorism prevention policy, programming, and coordination is required.
Advanced experience in drafting official reports is required.
Experience in substantive servicing of intergovernmental bodies and coordination frameworks is desirable.
Work experience within the United Nations system and/or a similar international organization is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this position, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
